Yes. This is exactly what we got this past weekend.
We were so excited to get outside that day of the party… but the night before it was raining so hard that I was worried. I thought, as much as Lucas wanted to go to the park to ride his bike with his friends (no matter the weather), if it was raining that hard most people would not want to hang out outside… even here in Portland! But there wasn’t much I could do, except wait and see what the morning would bring.
The next day? A beautiful day. Beautiful in many ways, but also a beautiful sunny and cloudy, chilly, wet, perfect Portland fall day. Lucas thought so too.
I made name tags for our glasses, something similar to how I did it for Siena’s party. But these had rubber bands instead of scraps of fabric. And of course, there is no birthday party without Papá’s fruit monster.
A little different from we can find in the summer, but we got it.
Then his friends arrived and we headed to the park.
Thanks to our friend Butch, we got racing numbers. Just for fun!
And we were all set for riding.
Lucas had a couple of courses set to show, and they did them and a variation of them as well, depending on what each of us wanted to do.
Mud in his face after the first round… check!
Hot chocolate with marshmallows… check!
Lucas was the only one to slide and fall on a wet cement… not a big scrape, but something he took as things that happens when you play like this… tough guy he is… I guess we can say… scrape… check?
Muddy bikes. Check!Muddy clothes… check!
Parents hanging out and catching up. Check!Birthday boy loud at the park. Check!
A beautiful, beautiful and fun morning at the park. Lucas was so, so happy… you should have seen his face every time he’d go around…
Then we came back home. Before coming inside, I made a Lucas Scavenger Hunt. There were some festivities going on in the neighborhood so I knew they’d be able to find a few uncommon things. So I put them in their list.
This gave us enough time to cook the pizzas we needed to get the hungry kids.
I know…. hands were washed but not the arms or faces… part of the day!
I thought I was so cool when I thought that we had to have “Bike Beer” for the adults…
Siena organized that morning their upstairs rooms with areas with different toys and games.
Do you see this little guy of mine… happiness all over him!
I found this cool bike fabric and made bags for everyone to take home Some of the goodies we put in there is one of Lucas’s favorite things at the moment… maps. Yes! A map of Portland and its bike routes. And this is how we ended our beautiful party just before it started raining again. Thank you to our friends for coming to celebrate with us this beautiful little person of ours.
