Lucas had his first swim meet of the year few weeks ago. He’s done one other one, and he was waiting this one as excited as he was last time.
It was just a little over a year ago when he was able to cross the pool swimming for the first time. It was just over a year when he was able to swim that long, into the deep end. and now, he’s been practicing every week.
It is a non-competitive meet, from teams that practice once a week. It has been amazing to see the kids and Lucas himself, learn so much in just ten hours.
His swimming has gotten so much better, and he’s gotten very confident in the water. Learning so much about the strokes. I love seeing him swim. He seems so big in the water, with all the other kids. He’s grown up so much lately.
They had their warm ups and practicing dives. As we’ve done with Siena’s meet.
And like with her, it makes me nervous to see them standing up on that block. No matter when it is. During practice, during warm ups, or during a race. I don’t know why.
The meet got started 30 minutes passed 8 in the morning. The first race was Freestyle Team Relay.
Lucas had fun. Him being 8, had all his competition at 25 meters.
We watched from up high.
Siena (and other kids from her swim team) volunteered that morning, so she got to help Lucas (and other swimmers) in the meet. For a lot of them, this was their first time competing in swimming.
Seeing that he barely swim a lap a year ago, now he’s racing one lap each time. He is so proud of himself. And you should see him at practice! Swimming many laps in one hour of practice.
