Dandelion fritters

Siena and Lucas came back from Trackers again last week with yet another recipe with wild foods.  They picked our dandelions from the yard as soon as they got home.  Siena put some flour, milk and something else, eyeing and guessing the amounts to all the ingredients, and getting ready to cook a treat.

Dandelion Fritters.  She washed the dandelions. Dried them.  Mixed the ingredients (will need to find the recipe and correct amounts).

Then adding oil to the pan and heating it up. Dunk dandelions in the batter, drop them carefully in the hot oil.  Lucas was the hot oil tester, with a little bit of water to see if it’s hot enough.  You need to try this few times, of course, and see how it sizzles.

Put them in the hot oil until cooked on one side.  Turn them with a slotted spoon or fork. Cook them until crisp.  Eat them warm.  Very good treat! Especially when made by your kids.

Hello Idealhousewife, I’ve read we can eat them for a while and always thought we should try them, but this time, my kids came back from their day and just mde them for us as a surprise, and I’m so glad. I think we are going to try them in different recipes. I love learning from my kids.
