mummifying a barbie

That’s exactly what we did.

I found this post online about mummifying a Barbie, and we thought it would be fun to try as well.  We first watched this video from the Getty Museum and then we did our own mummification.

We had to make a heart and brains for the Barbie, and then took them out as you should, with our special brain-taker-outer.

Siena kept track of the steps in case we’d like to do it again to someone else.  You never know when you might need to mummify someone, right?

Barbie was placed on a special board.

She had special oils poured on her body and then she was wrapped.

And was placed in a sarcophagus.

We finished our ceremony by leaving her in a resting place, where we’ve been doing our Egypt study and where we can enjoy and share our mummification process.

I think we are going to remember the mummification process for a long while.  It was a great activity and idea.  Thanks to the huge world of the internet, we were able to find out about this activity.  Love it!

You can see all the pins I have on Pinterest, on this Egypt Unit we just did, and more great ideas I have found. I find it a great tool for sure.

Best use for Barbie I’ve ever seen. Awesome activity.

    • Hi Little Sis. Yes! I totally agree with you. That’s why we headed to the thrift store and bought one especially for this project. And bought one that wasn’t “really” a Barbie… can’t really get myself to spend money on one. And we had so much fun. Not really destroying it, but really learning and doing as if it was a real mummy. A perfect activity to go along with what we were studying.
Thanks for coming to visit us here again!
